I took up Triathlons in 2003 and seem to be addicted to it since.I have met a great bunch of people through the sport and am very involved in our local club TriCW . I have amazed myself with some of my achievements. I ran my first Dublin marathon in 2008 which was something I never imagined doing. In July 2009 I did Ironman Frankfurt and totally surprised myself. Running was always a hurdle for me but I now realise it was all in my head.
I had never ran further than 1 mile before I was 35 and thought people who ran marathons were mad but amazing. If you want to do something badly enough you will achieve it. Just recently I have been taking part in a few more off road races. I did Gaelforce for the first time in 2009 and loved the whole experience. This year there are less triathlons and a lot more adventure races on the calender for me. It’s good to try different things and what better way to see more of this wonderful island and meet like minded folk.
Last year saw another first for me. I got roped into The Beast of Ballyhoura at the last minute and you can read my report on our club site TriCW. It was an amazing experience and am already looking forward to this year. Adventure racing is growing in Ireland and for me it’s a lot more fun that triathlons. Check out MSAI for some of the races on the calender.
If anyone has any questions please do not hesitate to ask because you don,t know what you might achieve.
